Independent Living at Brakendon Close

Our Brakendon Close complex comprises of 51 single or double occupancy flats and bungalows, finished to the highest standards. It is designed to provide for persons of pensionable age, who are physically capable of leading an independent life but would enjoy being part of a community and the security provided by our 24-hour Social Alarms Service, supported by our Scheme Managers during normal working hours.

Brakendon Close provides homes for older people in a caring environment while recognising the individual rights, privacy, dignity and independence of its tenants.

What’s available at Brakendon Close?

Our tenant-led Entertainments Committee meets monthly to discuss new ideas for activities, events and trips.
We offer a varied weekly activities schedule including:

  • Monday afternoon - our welcoming Scrabble group.
  • Tuesday morning - our very popular seated exercise class led by Dorothy, one of our enthusiastic tenants.
  • Tuesday afternoon - the ever more raucous team Boccia; you can hear the shouts of joy whenever someone scores 100!
  • Wednesday afternoon - time for Knit and Natter and board games.
  • Thursday morning - our popular coffee morning; a chance to catch up with your friends and neighbours!
  • Thursday afternoon - the competition hots up with our carpet bowls.
  • Holy Communion is held on the first Friday of every month and Songs of Praise sessions are held on a monthly basis.

We also regularly hold film afternoons, quizzes, singalong sessions and afternoon teas.

In partnership with our sister site, Corton House care home, there are poetry and art appreciation groups. We also offer a monthly book club.

There are also occasional outings to beaches, tea rooms, boat trips and other places of interest.

Get in touch with our friendly Scheme Managers for more information.

Each property in Brakendon Close has a kitchen for you to cook your own meals.

There is also a shared kitchen within the communal lounge which is used for events and coffee mornings.

Our Entertainment Committee organises regular Fish & Chip Lunches and Bring & Share Buffets.

We can provide details of a range of external meal providers and delivery services upon request.

We offer a meals service where a delicious freshly cooked lunch (usually a roast dinner) can be ordered for delivery to your property from the kitchens in Corton House every Wednesday, subject to availability.

We are hoping to extend this provision soon.
