Our Activities and Wellbeing team offer a huge range of activities, entertainment and interaction to support residents to live happy, full lives at Corton House. Their offering was commended in our July 2024 unannounced mock inspection, with the inspector praising “the amount of meaningful activity available and the quality of it (which) was well in excess of most registered care homes.”
Regular activities include quizzes, arts and crafts, knitting, gardening, informative talks and board games.
For gentle exercise, our Activities & Wellbeing Coordinator Maria, who is a trained yoga instructor, offers seated yoga; we also have sessions of seated Zumba and boxing with external providers.
Musical entertainment is always on the billing – from silent discos and old show tunes to string quartets and our very own choir, there is something for everyone to enjoy.
For animal lovers, we are regularly visited by our therapy dog Billie, and throughout the year we host handling sessions with the likes of miniature donkeys, guinea pigs, alpacas, owls and reptiles all bringing therapeutic benefits and stimulation to residents. Animals are also able to visit residents in their rooms, so those who prefer not to socialise in our main lounges do not miss out.
Worship services are held weekly, and we support anyone who wishes to attend their usual place of worship to do so if possible. For all faiths or none, our Chaplain is available for one to ones to discuss any problems and be a listening ear.
The team work hard to ensure the care home is well connected with the local community in Norwich and Norfolk; partnerships with charities, arts and culture organisations, schools and other community groups mean we are never short of fascinating visitors, places to visit and new experiences.
